Ikamva Guest House

I hate leaving one star reviews because it makes me feel like a one-star person, but I think I need to share what happened so someone else doesn't have their holiday ruined. I booked three nights at Ikamva and left after one. I felt unsafe and ripped off, and felt like I was bothering the caretaker whenever I needed anything. There was no owner supervision, and I'm not sure how there could be, since there's no house on the property. I gave up the money for the other two nights. It was Friday, I couldn't find another place, so I drove home to JHB. There's no main house, office, or reception, just a block of four rooms. One belongs to a woman who I guess is the caretaker. The stand was scattered with rubble, junk, and bits of old plastic. The gate wasn't working while I was there during the week, when it seemed like someone could have been called to fix it. I wanted to go cycling, but wondered whether my car would be safe at Ikhamva. Their terms say they aren't responsible for car theft, which made me wonder if it had happened before. The fridge didn't work. They replaced it after I arrived, but why wasn't that done before? The crockery and cutlery were there, but there's no kitchen, so washing up has to be done in the bathroom. There was one tiny, broken bin, so you'd have to make lots of trips to the outside bin around the corner, by a pile of junk, if self-catering. The terms and conditions in the bedside drawer had spelling and grammar problems. That may sound petty, but it's easy to fix. There wasn't even a welcome note, which would also be easy to sort out. The bathroom was quite nice, and if you're incredibly laid back and not fussy at all, the room might be okay for you. I don't understand how Ikamva has good reviews. I've stayed at many resorts around SA for the same price, and they were far superior.
