De Linden Boutique Guest House

We booked the upstairs loft through Bookings.com for our anniversary around the 16th October, but the room we were shown was completely different from the one in the listing. It had cement screed floors and faced the parking lot. The receptionist said other clients had raised the same complaint, and I have proof of both what we booked and what we were given. When my husband spoke to the owner, she said the issue was Bookings.com’s mistake and not her problem. She refused to refund us. In the end, my husband suggested she return half the money, but to date we still haven’t received anything. She has never contacted us, blames everyone else, and won’t take responsibility. I’m tired of trying to be nice about it. Any responsible business owner should check their own marketing instead of expecting clients to pay for its mistakes. I’d give this property a minus star rating if I could.

The breakfast was the highlight, and we’d come back for it any day. The accommodation was clean and neat, and the staff helped us check in late. Thanks to the team at De Linden Guesthouse, especially Claudia, who made us feel right at home.

We were told to leave the premises after I confronted one of the owners by phone. She said she had no staff, then her husband arrived and told us to F@&£ off. There was no staff on site, and the temporary helper said there were many complaints. Parking is on the street and doesn’t feel secure. Other guests said they had no hot water and staff were never available. We still haven’t heard back from the owner, and I wouldn’t recommend this accommodation. The photos online show the upper rooms, which is what we booked, but that definitely wasn’t what we were offered when we arrived. The pictures are misleading about the facilities, and the place looks much more deteriorated than they suggest, with cement floors everywhere. In my opinion, it’s totally overpriced.

I had a great stay and would still recommend De Linden Boutique Guest House. A couple of things could be better, though. Guests entering the property should be asked to keep noise down, especially near the Vygie and Crayfish rooms. Also, the breakfast staff should explain what hot dishes are available. On our first morning we had omelets, and when I said we didn’t want them again, nobody mentioned another option. I found that annoying.
