We had a lovely baby shower with friends and family. The staff were really helpful with setting up and cleaning afterward. Most of the decorations were hired from outside.

There’s so much noise, and management or the owners don’t keep the guests under control. It feels more like an entertainment venue than a guesthouse now, and several of us who’ve lived in the area for over 20 years find it intolerable. The problems began after the ownership changed. According to the previous owner, the title deed ownership was the only thing left in the sale. The new owner isn’t running it as a responsible, considerate guesthouse for residents.

Fern Ivy feels like a second home to me. I’m from Durban, and when I come to Pretoria for work, I stay there for two weeks every month. The big rooms with kitchens suit me well, the pool is always clean, and the staff are very friendly and go out of their way to make me feel at home.

The rooms are comfortable and well equipped, and there’s a pool and a full breakfast. But the real coffee is in the room, and I mean proper coffee that you plunge yourself. The breakfast coffee doesn’t come close to that.
