The Hamlet Country Lodge

From our first call until we checked out, Michael, Aiden the barman and the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful. The other patrons were lovely too, treating us like old friends. We had amazing pizza for supper and an outstanding breakfast, so compliments to the chef. Ashley gave great service at breakfast. Thanks to everyone, from Martin and Susan. We’ll be back and will tell others to visit the Hamlet Lodge.

This was a stressful and uncomfortable stay at The Hamlet Country Lodge (Prince Hamlet), and I wouldn’t recommend it. I paid for two people, but the conditions were so poor that only one stayed. I had to change my own accommodation so my guest, Dr. Bailey, could sleep somewhere halfway decent. We were given a double bed instead of the queen we booked, just one worn towel, and visibly stained bedding. The headboard and furniture were filthy and dated, shower corners were grimy, and I fumigated the bed with Doom because I didn’t feel safe letting someone sleep there otherwise. There were loose hanging plug points too, which felt like a serious safety issue. The place is advertised as safe, but the back entrance was left open, allowing uncontrolled access. At 10 p.m. another guest came in and played the piano loudly, disturbing everyone. The passage carpets were filthy, a concern for anyone sensitive to dust or sinus problems. We even saw a guest lying in bed with their room door wide open to the hallway, exposed to people passing by. The included breakfast was poor and not worth it. Rooms are by the parking area and main road, with noise all night. On arrival we waited outside a gate that looked like a prison entrance. Reception was empty and the doorbell didn’t work. The place falls short of basic hospitality standards and shouldn’t be listed on Booking.com or another reputable platform. It wasn’t worth the money or stress.

The pork ribs and coffee from the machine were a nice addition to the friendly, engaging staff. Really enjoyable experience 👏

I’ve had dinner there at least three times, and each visit has left me very satisfied. The food is fresh, delicious, good quality and served in generous portions. The service is excellent too, they always make an extra effort. I’d happily recommend it.
