We stayed one night at the end of May 2026. In the morning, mist and a little drizzle made everything feel magical. The basic cottage was comfortable, with a heated blanket on the bed and a lovely hot shower. The kitchen is outside and has a gas stove, fridge, and microwave. The sink was a little awkward to use, but it wasn't a big deal. We spotted baboons watching our food while we were in the kitchen, so keep the cover latched. Finding the B&B entrance took a bit of effort since it sits by the road and is screened by trees.

The breakfast was really good, especially with a long drive ahead. We stayed here last week while travelling the Panorama Route, and the friendly couple who own and look after the place were happy to help whenever they could. There are lovely cabins in different sizes. I'd definitely recommend staying here if you're around Graskop.

The little trail beneath the thick tree canopy felt like a secret rainforest and was beautiful, though the mosquitoes seemed to enjoy it as much as we did. Bring proper repellent unless you want to get bitten. Zur Alten Mine was a great base for a three-night stay, with God’s Window, The Pinnacle, and Graskop Gorge Lift Co. close by. The gardens were lovely, the chalets cozy, and the hospitality warm. One warning if you're coming from Pretoria: avoid the R36 to Lydenburg off the N4. The road is in terrible repair, and unless your car can handle lunar terrain, the damage could be expensive. We had a fantastic stay and would come back, taking a safer route next time.

The rooms are really cute, and the area around them is beautiful. We had a great time at this BnB. We ran into a couple of car problems, and host Lynn was so kind and supportive, helping us through every step. She was lovely and really helpful.

The owner was extremely friendly and helpful, and the cottage felt very cozy. We loved the beautiful view. This was probably the best place we stayed during our three-week trip around SA.
