The noise starts as soon as you arrive, with cars revving on the nearby race track. It eases later in the afternoon, then the hotel turns up music that goes on into the early morning. People also spend much of the night walking from the cabins to the hotel with open alcohol containers, right beside the campsites. Cars drive through the campsites all night too. Avoid this place.

They were the only lodging that could accommodate my beloved Jack Russell. I booked and paid in advance by credit card, and they confirmed in writing that pets were welcome. When a Covid-related incident forced me to cancel, the cancellation was hassle-free. I appreciated the quality of their service even though I couldn't make the visit, and I hope to stay there next time, God willing.

The one star is only because it's the lowest rating available. There should be an option to give this place less. We left at sunrise after a night of music, shouting, talking and very bad, loud “singing” that continued even after we asked for quiet at 3am. We considered calling the police but were afraid to. The bass music headed out around midnight, but the party carried on. It had started at 8pm, when about 40 people arrived at the neighboring cabin, with two cars playing different music and one bass line so loud our cabin shook. After a long drive, an early night wasn't possible. The “self catering chalets” are wooden garden sheds with about 2 metres between them. Ours had a bed, table, fridge, kettle, 2 cups, bathroom with no door, and a TV. The windows are tiny, which is probably for the best with neighbors so close. There was no stoep for sitting out to enjoy the view, and no chairs or glasses. No staff are on site, which should have warned us. Check-in is at the hotel next door, and the gate is wide open with no security. In a town like Springbok with lots of places to stay, we picked the one that should charge by the hour. Never coming back.

The braai area and ablution block hadn't been cleaned, the bins were still full, and I had to phone to get toilet paper. Someone had damaged the electric gate, but reception said it wasn't their problem. We had to move the very heavy gate ourselves.

It was a simple stopover, but we couldn't wait to leave. The bathrooms hadn't been cleaned, there was hardly any toilet paper, and there was no soap or sanitizer at all, Covid regulations? The showers were cold too.
