Lovely views, and Millstream has a great mix of a rustic farm feel and a modern touch. The accommodation was clean, neat and well equipped. Ulf was a spectacular host and sorted things out for us at the last minute. Thanks, Ulf. We’ll definitely be back!

After living at Millstream for a year, I can’t recommend it for a long-term stay. The beautiful old house has a lot of potential, but it has sadly been allowed to deteriorate, and the problems I raised with the landlord many times were not properly addressed. The electricity supply is inadequate, causing frequent trips that have damaged appliances. Because of this, the geysers can’t be left on all the time. For about three months during winter, I had cold showers both morning and evening. There was also a serious security problem. The pedestrian gate was broken for more than three months, and two robberies happened within one week. Several bicycles, wetsuits and other belongings were stolen. The house needs some work. The electrical supply should be increased, and the old wiring throughout needs replacing because it’s a hazard. It’s sad to see such a lovely property with so much potential go to waste.

Millstream is fairly priced and good value compared with many places in Stellenbosch. George was a great host who worked hard to keep his guests happy, and we had a nice stay. Just don’t expect the luxury you’d get at some of the other places. It isn’t budget accommodation either, and it could probably do with a bit of renovation.

I was there for three nights on a business trip in August, and since it was cold, I appreciated that they brought heaters for my lovely but chilly room. The host lives on the premises, which is great. There’s no TV in the room, but the free Wi-Fi meant I could watch Netflix. I also liked having a balcony with chairs where I could step out for a smoke. Breakfast was good. Cold continental options are available before 7am, and after that you can order something hot. They serve percolator coffee at the breakfast table, which is much better than instant. Shampoo and conditioner are provided, but it’s bar soap rather than shower gel, so bring your own if you don’t like the tight feeling soap can leave on your skin. They also have a card machine for payment.

There wasn’t a TV in my room, but Debbie was an excellent hostess and the rooms were clean and beautiful. The B&B is in a great spot near Stellenboch, with plenty to do. My friend and I will definitely visit again.
