This review is just about the dining area at African Shades. There’s seating indoors and outside, and the breakfast menu has a good variety. It’s a nice spot to eat under the trees before exploring the rest of Swellendam. Yes, I’ll visit again.

A fabulous stop in Swellendam, with spacious, well appointed rooms that are clean and uncluttered, with trendy decor. It’s a family run business, and everyone was friendly and helpful. The staff and service were outstanding. There’s also an on site restaurant with delicious homemade food and cakes, plus coffee to die for. Highly recommended.

I had a really nice three day stay at African Shades. The friendly staff and all the little details made it feel special, and they clean your room while you’re having breakfast. I especially enjoyed relaxing in the hammock by the pool. I highly recommend it to anyone passing through Swellendam.
