Arumvale Country House

We only stopped for one night on a road trip, but this tucked-away place was such a nice surprise that we wished we could stay longer. Our room was a spacious, open-plan loft over two floors, with a bathroom upstairs and another downstairs. The upstairs bed had a gorgeous view, and sleeping up there felt like being in a fancy glamping tent. A really special, unusual stay.

We stayed on 23/24 January 2026 and would recommend it for a peaceful farm break. The views were incredible, there were no hidden costs, and free WiFi was a bonus. It was easy to arrive, with parking right by the room. The gravel road was fine, and we liked the pool, warm water, fan, mosquito net, and relaxed farm feel. The room was private, the bed was comfortable, and the hosts were friendly. Our self-catering Airbnb kitchenette had the basics for simple meals, though the lack of sharp knives made prep frustrating. The place could use a bit of TLC and wasn’t the cleanest.

The location is phenomenal, but the condition of the rooms made us cut our stay short for the first time in years. They’re old, shabby, and rustic in a way that felt like a throwback to South Africa in 1960. The outside and garden look nice, which makes the neglected rooms all the more disappointing. The owner should invest in the rooms. There was no WiFi signal in the outside guest house, the pool was cloudy and full of leaves, and most kitchen equipment was dirty or burned. Ants were all over the suite, doors squeaked or were broken, and some lights didn’t work. Avoid it until it’s renovated.

We had a lovely stay and really enjoyed barbecuing on our room’s terrace with that beautiful view. The staff were so friendly and helpful. It’s a perfect place to get away from everything.
