Breakfast at The View was a real highlight. You can choose from a menu, and the dishes were carefully prepared with lovely attention to detail. Our room was spotless and thoughtfully set up, too. Patrick and his wife were warm, attentive hosts who clearly cared about our stay. We stopped for one night on the way back from the Garden Route to Cape Town and thoroughly enjoyed it. We’d definitely choose The View again and recommend staying here.

The mountain view was beautiful, and Patrick was such a nice owner. I left my e-reader behind, and he kindly sent it to an address where we were staying later in our holiday. A lovely stay! 😃

My wife arrived at The View Swellendam in February 2026 and found the room that had been precooked in very poor condition. There was damp and mould on the walls, the shower floor was cracked and mouldy, and paint was flaking in several places. She rejected the room, but the owner refused to refund the prepaid rate or offer another room. He then became sarcastic and said she probably didn't like the pictures in the room. My wife left feeling threatened and intimidated.

The next morning felt thoroughly professional, with excellent service and a wonderful breakfast outside overlooking the mountains. The food was elegant, too. When I arrived, it was raining, and they let me park my motorbike inside the house. There was a family celebration going on, and they invited me to join in. I felt like part of the family from the start. People call places a home away from home, and here that really fit.

Patrick was very friendly and accommodating while I was there on a business trip. My room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and breakfast was delicious.
