We asked for a room with a bathtub during a very busy time, and the team made sure we got one. Everyone was welcoming and ready to help, and the place was clean, with spotless white sheets and towels. It’s in a quiet area, and we felt secure and at ease. The food was exquisite, the rooms were lovely, and the quality of everything was beyond 100%. The staff are so friendly and really understand hospitality, and the place has a welcoming, at-home feeling. It’s beautifully located in the heart of Mthatha. I’d highly recommend staying here if you’re in town. You won’t regret it.

The place feels homely and classy, and it’s very clean. The staff are friendly and do their best to make you comfortable. My one concern is the clear bathroom blinds. Someone outside could see what was going on in there, and a bathroom should be private.

Asanele at reception and Sandile, a hospitality student gaining work experience, welcomed us warmly and showed us to our room. It was clean and nicely furnished, though there were no bedside lamps. The socket nearest the bed sits under the headboard, so it was hard for me to reach. That was inconvenient because I need power for my CPAP machine. Breakfast cost R120 per person, which seemed out of proportion with the room rate of R630 excluding VAT, so we took our leftover KFC supper with us as breakfast instead. I was also annoyed that the advertised R630 rate didn’t mention VAT. As far as I know, that goes against South African VAT law, and after agreeing to R630, I was charged R724.59.
