Das Dunen

The stay itself was good apart from a number of letdowns. The small pool was dusty and full of leaves, with nobody around to clean it, so we couldn’t swim to cool off. On those hot Upington days there was no cold water in the fridge either, and the milk had been left out to spoil. Coffee supplies were put out and then left unattended. Breakfast wasn’t included and had to be ordered the day before, but nobody mentioned that when we arrived. When we asked about breakfast, tea or juice on our first morning, we were told the budget was too low, so we only had tap water, coffee and tea. There was no TV because DStv had been disconnected over lockdown financial issues, which we understood, but in South Africa there’s free Openview. There was no handwash soap in the bathroom either. It’s a lovely B&B with a lot of potential, but it could be managed better.

The bedrooms were spacious, lovely and clean, and the price was excellent for what you get. Thanks for being so friendly, Jaco. This guesthouse is one of my best experiences.

There isn’t a B&B here, and getting food means travelling quite a distance to the nearest place. The location is far from everything, which is a problem. During loadshedding, the curtains block natural light. If your phone is flat and you don’t have a lantern, you’re left in total darkness.

The rooms were excellent for such a low price. We also had a hearty evening meal for R80 per person. We’d definitely come back!
