Gooderson Natal Spa Hot Springs & Leisure Resort

The activities are the main reason I gave this place two stars, and they're what might bring me back. Booking was a hassle: I had to call several places to finish the reservation, and I never received confirmation. Since the drive is 4 hours 30 minutes, I had to phone to check whether accommodation had actually been booked. Guests should also be warned about the construction and awful potholes, which could cause a blowout for smaller cars, especially if driving after dark. An alternate route would help. The self-catering unit needs an upgrade, and its furniture looks as old as the resort. The accommodation didn't feel worth the price, especially with extra charges for each game, activity, or item. We had bad service at the bar from Nkululeko and Mike. Each of the three times we ordered, we felt other people were served ahead of us and canceled. We ordered milkshakes, then went back 30 minutes later while the lady was busy and said we'd return. When we came back, there were no other customers, but Mike started filling our drinks, charging R5 per glass, then left them to help someone who'd just arrived. It was frustrating to watch, and the same thing happened all three times. Bongokuhle, on the other hand, was genuinely helpful and friendly. He tried to fix the fridge, though the replacement parts didn't fit, and checked in on us whenever he saw us.

The hot spring pools were lovely, relaxing, and well kept, definitely the highlight for us. But we were looking forward to our stay at Gooderson Natal Spa and ended up disappointed. The self-catering units seemed poorly maintained and not very clean, which was frustrating given the price and the effort to get there. The food at the restaurant was just okay, nothing memorable, but not bad either. The drive was also awful, with ridiculous potholes in both directions that made the journey unpleasant and hardly seemed worth the hours it took. It could be a wonderful getaway if the roads, cleanliness, and maintenance improved. For now, we won't be going back.

The pools come in a good variety, and the facilities are neatly laid out with easy access from the rooms. This gem sits among the KZN mountains near Dumbe, and we had a pleasant stay. The food was tasty, and chef Owen and the team made an effort to chat with guests in the dining area. Staff would also check in out of the blue to see if we were having a good day. Thanks to Raymond, Phillip, Bregita, and the front desk, and a big thank you to Management Francois and Su-Mari. You're the best.

What a pleasure of a stay. The accommodation was top notch, the meals were excellent, and the staff were super friendly. Mr and Mrs Roux were amazing hosts, and the pools were nice and clean. Definitely worth every penny.
