Shamrock Arms Guest Lodge

From booking through checkout, everything was easy. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the place was neat and tidy. The food was great too, so I was really impressed and booked again for 2024. We ran eland’s marathon, and Stad were up at 3am to help runners with breakfast. Highly recommend shamrock arms.

We sent several messages asking for the dinner menu to decide whether we wanted to eat there, but got no reply. There isn't really anything else in the village. When we arrived, they said they'd sent the menu a few days earlier. It only has two options, meat or fish, yet apparently resending it was too much trouble. They say the kitchen is open until 20:00, but we arrived at 18:00 and were told dinner had to be at 18:30. We were the only guests, and they seemed in a hurry to finish so they could sit on the terrace with a glass of wine, which they did. Dinner was over by 19:00. There's nothing to do in the village, and they advise against leaving the hotel because it can be dangerous. The internet didn't work at all while we were there, so there was no Netflix or internet. All we could do was sit on the bed and stare at the ceiling, since the room has no sofa or anything like that. I won't comment on the room itself, I'll leave that to the photos. You can decide whether it's worth paying R1800. I don't understand how anyone can rate this accommodation a 4 or 5.

The waiter is hilarious, lots of fun, and I spent ages playing the piano. We walked in a couple of times for a drink, and gave the boss a hard time when I asked for a white russian ;). The place really brings you out of Africa. It's one of the oldest buildings in town. Try it, you'll enjoy it!

The place was clean and neat, the staff friendly, and the food beautifully presented. I reckon it's a much better experience when you book for personal or pleasure reasons. I didn't enjoy the administration when authorities booked us there. No starter or dessert, no visitors, and fixed eating times with no flexibility. It felt like being grounded at my parents' home.
