Serendipity Guest House and Restaurant

Dinner here was a memorable experience, with quality food, just the right portions and perfect service. Every item on the menu complemented the others, and the suggested wines added to the meal. Lizelle, Rudolph and the waiting staff are consummate professionals. We had a compact wine pairing and can only call it perfection. Thank you.

Rudolf & Lizelle and the team at serendipity, thank you for a wonderful evening exploring "Suid-Afrika" through the food, from the beach to land and back into a bee's hive for dessert. It was an amazing journey. This was my third time dining at your restaurant, and the food makes it a different experience each time, which is so cool. Most of all, thank you for your kindness and passion. My wife and I love spending time with the serendipity family once a year. She’s very picky about food, especially sauce, but she gets excited to eat your food with the sauce, which shows how phenomenal it is. We brought friends too, and they enjoyed it so much. In their own words: "Money well spend" and "Ek is nou tevrede met die lewe".

The location was lovely, and our waitress was warm and friendly. The food, though, was far below average for something presented and priced as fine dining, with long explanations about how unique each ingredient was. The portions were so small that we were still hungry after all 5 courses. The fish and malva pudding were scandalously dry, and there was no custard with the malva, which makes you wonder how it can even count as malva pudding. We were surprised this place gets such good reviews.

The restaurant was the highlight by far. Chef Lizelle is a real master, and every South African inspired dish was tasty, beautifully presented and just right. We were lucky to eat there two nights in a row and try different dishes from Chef Lizette’s creation each day. The wine pairing was perfect too. We tried a lot of wines from their great collection and learned plenty from the knowledgeable, attentive restaurant team. We had two unforgettable nights at beautiful Serendipity. From the moment we arrived at this family run Guest House, it felt like home. Our spacious, beautiful and cozy room had a terrace over the river and everything we could have wanted, plus some tasty treats. The whole team was kind and attentive, looked after our wishes and gave us good tips for things to do around Wilderness. Thank you to everyone at Serendipity for making the stay so magical. We hope to visit again one day.
