Shearwater Explorers Village

The location was a downside for me. To reach the hotel you have to walk down an alley where shopkeepers heckle you, and I found that undesirable. The bigger problem was the service: on the morning I checked out, February 9, after staying February 7 and 8, there was no running water in my room when I went to shower. I messaged the front desk on WhatsApp and got no reply. At checkout, the attendant didn’t believe me and went back to check the room with my key. Then they gave me the manager’s business card and said the front desk couldn’t help. I emailed both addresses on the card and sent another WhatsApp message, explaining the outage and asking for a 50% refund for that one night only, since the previous night was fine. I heard nothing for days. After I emailed again to say I’d have to leave a review if they didn’t respond, the manager apologized and said they were working on a resolution. Several more days went by without any further contact. The customer service and management responsiveness were horrible. I’d recommend staying somewhere else.

We were a small group of 13 travelling through Africa with OAT travel, and stayed three nights. The team made us feel welcome and appreciated, always greeting us warmly. Ithu, our breakfast server, was a real asset: by the second morning she knew everyone’s names, and on our last morning she remembered our orders. They also provide nightly turndown and laundry service. The location is handy for Victoria Falls, Zambia, and the Zambezi river, with local artists selling their work just outside and a few restaurants within walking distance. We’d stay here again if we get the chance to return.

We were here for three nights, and the staff were friendly and very accommodating. Breakfast and dinner came with our package, and both were delicious.

The rooms were fresh and clean, and the gardens and pool made the place feel like a dream. My family and I had a lovely time at Shearwater Explorers Village, especially thanks to the friendly service and solid value. We couldn’t believe the actual Victoria Falls were only a short walk away, so my family got to see them more than once.
