Patagonia Travellers Hostel

We found the staff really kind and helpful. They let us add nights when bad weather changed our plans and arranged a bus to Río Eléctrico. The kitchen has a cast iron pan, which was great for cooking steak, and there’s a lounge and dining space too. Shared bathrooms on each floor never seemed crowded. Our room was tidy and comfortable, though simply decorated. Private rooms include breakfast. It’s about a 15-minute walk from the bus terminal, near supermarkets and the trail starts.

The staff were relaxed and welcoming, and helped us plan hikes. There are plenty of shared spaces to hang out, lockers, hot showers, and cozy rooms that make it easy to meet people. Laundry costs 10,000 pesos. The kitchen was unusually clean and well stocked, with two four-burner gas stoves, a kettle, toaster, and lots of fridge and cupboard space for food. A pub and restaurant sit right across the street. It takes about 15 minutes to walk from the bus terminal, but that puts you nearer the trailheads, which are on the far side of town. One of my favorite places I stayed in South America. I’d happily recommend it.

We were a group of 13 and had a lovely stay. The rooms were clean, breakfast was good, and there was a kitchen for making food plus a lounge to relax in. It’s close to both trails and restaurants. Clara & Dana at reception were smiling and incredibly helpful. The place also has a nice view. I hope to come back.

The location is the one thing I liked, though El Chalten is so small that it’s hard to be badly placed anyway. They tried to charge more than we had reserved, and the service was terrible and really unprofessional. It was noisy, with music in the common areas from early morning until late at night that carried into the room. There was no ventilation and only one toilet for four rooms. This was the worst place for getting proper rest before hiking. I also found it expensive for a hostel, especially for what you get.
