The reception staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, five stars for them. The special dinner menu cost 240$, but was so disappointing that we left halfway through. No one seemed interested in hearing our feedback. The salad was soggy, as if it had been marinated long beforehand, the meat was dry, and the roughly 400g serving of potato puree had no flavor. The service didn't say anything about the courses. We also weren't allowed to swap a glass of red wine for white. Between starter and main, they served pears in sugared wine over sugared whipped cream, a typical local dessert, but poorly made and at the wrong point in the meal. You can sleep there, but avoid the food. The manager hasn't contacted us to this day, though we've received ten emails asking us to review our stay.

The breakfast was a good spread if you're not particular, but it wasn't enough for our needs, which is why I gave four stars. The rooms, location, and hotel service were spectacular. It was quiet at night, the heating worked well, and the shower pressure was fantastic. Weather problems delayed our arrival, and the ladies at reception arranged alternative transport that saved the day.

Our apartment was right below the stairs, so every person going up and down was audible, and there was no way we could sleep through it. The beds sagged in the middle, there was only one large towel in each room, and the trash cans were mostly broken. The furniture was run-down, and the place felt more like a hostel than an apartment. It was dirty when we arrived, with crumbs and dirt everywhere. Our socks were filthy after less than a minute, and the tiny bathroom didn't look well cleaned. There was no temperature regulation. If it got hot, there was only one small bathroom window. There was no TV either, which might have been nice on rainy days when trekking wasn't an option. At check-in, the receptionist was rude, as if we didn't have a reservation. We decided to check out immediately and find somewhere else, losing our money. They'd also charged us three days before check-in without explanation. When I asked, they said it was in the contract, which should have been the first sign of how the place was managed. Management contacted me the day after we left to ask what happened. I replied, but got no response or apology.

The food and bar in the hotel were a highlight, and I was especially surprised by how good the Patagonian wines they offered were. It's a very nice, cozy hotel with friendly people. Restaurants, mini markets, and bakeries are all within walking distance. Try the wine once you're there.

The service was lovely, and it’s a nice hotel. I’d recommend staying here in El Chalten.
