Hotel Hecht

The hotel looks good at first glance, but it’s dirty and cheaply maintained. There are a lot of issues: windows that don’t work, missing curtains, a sewer smell in the bathroom, mold on the bathroom sealant, and dangerous electrical connections. The emergency exit on the second floor leads into a locked hotel room. I doubt that’s legal. Hotel standards in Austria are usually good and well maintained, but this place is far from that.

Good points: the location, a clean room, comfortable beds, a small sample of shampoo and body wash, a nice breakfast selection, and a view I liked from the window. Bring earplugs and you can get a decent rest. The downsides were hard to ignore. A café right next door was noisy all night until morning, and the windows barely blocked any sound. There were no blinds, just a curtain, so the room was bright in the morning. Neither of the hotel’s WiFi networks worked in the upper rooms, leaving us without internet. The shower swung between boiling and cold at one setting. Room 17’s key lock didn’t always work, and its door handle was nearly broken. A solid three.

Breakfast had lots of good options, and we loved our stay. The hotel was perfectly placed for our Christmas market trip. Communication was excellent, and late check-in was easy and described accurately. The room was just right, with comfortable beds, great bedding, and a hot shower. We’d stay again.

The staff were wonderful, breakfast was excellent, and the location was good. There’s paid parking close by, though the hotel itself has none. Unfortunately, the bar on the first level and outside the entrance stays open very late. The patrons were obnoxious and behaved terribly, as if they knew they were allowed to. Their screaming and lovers’ quarrels woke us up, and there was vomit by the front entrance in the morning. I initially thought the first night was just a one-off, but I suspect this is common. The hotel needs to deal with it.
