The most memorable part of the room was a cricket or grasshopper chirping all night. The bed was comfortable, but that was about the only facility: there was no TV, bottled water, or bedside light, just a broken table and chair and a huge wardrobe with a door held shut by a bent nail and an extension cord inside. The room was cramped and stuffy, with a piney smell that seemed to cover up the stale odor of a place where someone had smoked heavily. I ended up here after being diverted from Hotel Speckbacherhof, which my colleague had booked for our trip north from Italy. We only found out when we arrived around 22:00 and saw a note on the locked front door.
