Veitlbauer - Georg Gell Bauernhofurlaub

Families have plenty to keep the kids busy, including the private playground and ride-on toys outside the house. The Gell family were friendly and had useful suggestions for things to do. Inside, the apartment was spacious and very well equipped, with fantastic views. A beautiful place for a relaxing holiday.

We really appreciated the cooler evenings and nights up at this altitude during hot summer weather. As city dwellers who suffer through tropical nights, that was a treat. The view across Mauterndorf to Mariapfarr is stunning, and the secluded setting is wonderfully peaceful. We spent five lovely days at this charming old farm. The Gell family were incredibly friendly, and our apartment was thoughtfully furnished with high-quality things that were clearly well cared for. They'd thought of everything, from the toaster and fully automatic coffee machine to a hand mixer. The Swiss pine bed was incredibly comfortable too. We'd happily return and highly recommend it.

The apartment may be well equipped, but that didn't make up for how unwelcome we felt. We're a family of five with lively children aged 3, 8, and 12, and had chosen a farm holiday advertised as child-friendly. The strict rules were laid out from the beginning: shoes off in the entrance, quiet in the hallway because the owner's children went to bed between 7 and 8 p.m., and no walking around the apartment in the evening. We didn't gag and tie up our three-year-old, and the next day we got a phone call calling us a "problem." My wife and our youngest found another, more child-friendly place and spent the rest of the week there so the holiday could be less stressful. Several things advertised on the website never happened, including breakfast pastry service, snacks made with organic produce, feeding animals with the farmer, hikes, and farm tours. When we asked about breakfast pastries, we were told to contact the baker ourselves. The way the situation was handled felt highly unprofessional, with no sympathy or suggestions for a solution. Unfortunately, the Veitlbauer is an example of negative tourism and feels completely unlike the Lungau region. We strongly discourage staying at this farm, which felt more like a "sanatorium."

We felt at ease throughout our holiday, both at the Veitlbauer farm and while enjoying the lovely area around Mauterndorf. The Gell family were so welcoming, and we had everything we needed. We can recommend the farm wholeheartedly.
