This is a small Austrian guesthouse run by a very welcoming local couple. They don’t speak much English, so don’t count on getting tips, but they really try to make your stay great. I made eggs for breakfast instead of having their regular breakfast, and the next morning they’d bought eggs for me to use during the rest of my trip. The rooms, kitchen, and everything else were clean, so I do recommend the place if this is what you’re after. The location is pretty good, about a nice seven-minute walk from the penken gondola, but there isn’t a ski bus stop nearby. The rooms aren’t fancy, the bathroom is small, water pressure is low, and there’s no soap or shampoo in the room. I was cold a lot, too.

Maria and the hosts were warm and easy to approach. Breakfast was simple, with a few things Maria had baked herself, and there’s a shared kitchen too. The rooms have an unusual layout, but they’re in good condition.

Free parking and a handy spot for both the Penkenbahn and Ahornbahn made getting around easy. We were there with my wife and our 20-month-old son for his first ski trip, and the owners went out of their way several times to help him feel at ease. The lodge was clean and basic, just the way I like it, and breakfast was tasty and generous. We’ll stay again when we next ski in Mayrhofen.

There’s a little kitchen for making your own meals and storage for skis. Our room was tidy and well looked after, and the hostess was fantastic.
