Hotel Haus am See Self Check-in

Franz, the owner, was so friendly and gladly helped when I asked about breakfast. It was fantastic, with a waffle maker, cold cuts, fruit, fresh bread, and a machine for coffee and hot chocolate. There aren’t breakfast places in Obertraun, so €18 per person felt well worth it. This is a homely B&B run by a really nice couple, and it costs less than other places in Hallstatt and Obertraun. My partner and I had a wonderful stay away from the Hallstatt crowds. The hotel is right behind a magnificent view of the lake and Hallstatt, and the location is hard to beat. Respecting other cultures and people helps you see how hospitable and friendly this place is. Thank you, Franz, for making our trip to Austria worthwhile. Hope we can come back soon.

The view was the highlight of our one-night stay at Hotel Haus am See. Waking up to a calm lake framed by mountains felt peaceful and almost magical, something photos can’t really capture. The room was spotless, cosy, and comfortable, and the location by the water was perfect for a quiet walk or just enjoying the scenery. Check-in was easy and parking convenient. From the moment we arrived, the owner welcomed us warmly and showed real care and pride in the place, right down to the little details. We only experienced kindness, professionalism, and attention during our visit, so it saddens us to hear about unfair or negative reviews. We know it takes effort to keep a place like this going, and we appreciate it. We left with lovely memories and full hearts. We’ll recommend Hotel Haus am See to anyone visiting the area and hope to return one day.

Breakfast was a real highlight, with fresh pastries and bakery items, made-to-order waffles, cold cuts, scrambled eggs, fruit, and excellent coffee. The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and stepping onto the balcony to see Lake Hallstatt and the mountains felt like heaven. The hotel sits right by the lake, peaceful but convenient for exploring Hallstatt and the Salzkammergut region. Franz, the manager, welcomed us with a lovely smile and made us feel at home. He was passionate about making our stay special, offered ideas for the region, shared hiking tips for Dachstein and Lake Hallstatt, and pointed us to places away from the crowds. He even helped us plan our days. We liked it so much that we extended our stay by a day because we didn’t want to leave. We’ve just returned from Hotel Haus Am See in Obertraun, and it was one of our best hotel experiences. Franz’s personal touch made the trip memorable, and we can’t wait to come back and recommend Hotel Haus Am See and Franz to everyone we know.

Although the location is very good, we had an unpleasant stay. We raised basic concerns politely, but management handled them rudely and unprofessionally. We felt dismissed instead of supported as paying guests, and the way things were handled left us uncomfortable. Hospitality should make guests feel welcome and respected, which was missing here. I can’t recommend this place.
