Eduard-Heinrich-Haus - Hostel

I arrived by bicycle and found an indoor room where I could store it. My room was spacious and comfortable for the one night, with a table and chairs. Breakfast was very good, with lots to choose from: rolls, sliced bread, cereal, meats, cheese, hard-boiled eggs, and more.

Walking back to the hostel to rest after the museums, Christmas markets, and crowds was a welcome break. I got to know more of Salzburg by walking different routes all the way to the center. The HI youth hostel was very clean and met my expectations. Whatever the distance, I know it’s an excellent option!

Traveling with a bicycle worked really well here, whether you’re on a cycle tour or bringing a bike along in the car for city trips or rides through the countryside. We were two adults, and the hotel’s large rooms can fit up to four, with enough space for bikes. Being outside the Salzburg city center wasn’t a problem; it worked to our advantage, since we could ride in and out whenever we liked. The tree-filled, park-like surroundings were quiet at night, with birds in the morning. Breakfast was great, and the staff were super friendly, especially Klaus at the front desk. A couple of drawbacks: lots of kids run around in the morning, which makes sense since school groups stay here, and the building looks like it hasn’t had enough upkeep investment. The rooms are clean, though, which helps make up for that. The shared bathroom has two shower stalls and two toilets for up to four rooms, so it can be an issue. You’re balancing a bit less privacy against the cost-benefit. My four-star rating reflects those inconveniences alongside the friendly service and location. If you’re adventurous or sporty, whether cycling for tourism or sport, these minor issues are less likely to sway you.

Breakfast was good, and I had no problems during my stay. The place is quiet and nicely situated. With a bit of luck, you might get a room looking out at the mountains. The personal lockers were faulty, though, and I couldn't lock mine.
