Pension Ballwein

It felt like somewhere out of a fairytale. The property was beautifully built and perfect down to the last detail. Even better, the owners were kind and courteous, and took care of everything we needed. We'd definitely return for a longer stay.

Everything was just right, from the room and service to the breakfast. The buffet had fruit, vegetables, cheese, meats, pastries, bread and yogurt, plus eggs made to order and several kinds of coffee with refills. We enjoyed our whole visit to Salzburg.

It was perfect, with friendly hosts and a wonderful apartment. We stayed for two weeks and had a magical time. We're sure to come back next year.

The breakfast deserves its own review, maybe even songs. I've stayed in Austria and Germany many times and haven't seen a selection this broad, well presented and high quality. The room felt warm and friendly too, without that usual awkward silence in the breakfast room. Pension Ballwein and the family who run it are spectacular. They clearly take pride in what they do, and everything is done and presented with real care. The building and rooms strike a lovely balance between traditional and modern, and there was absolutely nothing I wanted or needed that was missing. I rarely review a place before checking out, but this one compelled me to. If I could give more than five stars, I would. The owners should teach seminars in hotel operation and management. If you're visiting Salzburg, stay at Pension Ballwein.
