Mercure Vienna First

Don’t miss breakfast if you stay at Hotel Mercure Vienna First. Kerstin and Volkan made the mornings feel like joining a community, not just sitting down to eat. Kerstin greeted us with so much warmth and energy, and seemed to be everywhere, talking with guests and making each person feel welcome. I especially admired her curiosity and the way she communicates in different languages and connects with people. That kind of presence is a gift. If I owned the hotel, she’d be a star employee. The care, pride and love she brings to her work are inspiring. Thank you for the hospitality and lovely conversations 🥰

We were comfortable throughout our five nights, and the location made it easy to walk almost everywhere. St Stephen's cathedral and the town center were about a 10-minute walk away. Reception staff and chambermaids were all polite and friendly. The bedroom had everything we needed, including a kettle, fridge, tissues, bath gel and shampoo, plus a comfortable bed. We especially liked having both a bath and shower. The bedding was a little thin and the room felt cold in November, but when we mentioned it, they brought an extra quilt and an electric radiator straight away. Breakfast was good, though a bit expensive. We ate at the hotel twice and went to nearby cafes on the other three mornings. We’d recommend the hotel to other visitors to Vienna.

The TV’s YouTube and Netflix didn’t work, which was my one complaint. Otherwise the room was quiet at night, roomy enough and cozy, with good water pressure. There was free still and sparkling water in the room, and the lobby had complimentary apples and waffle snacks every day. The hotel is right in the heart of the city, a short walk from the center, subway and trams, with more places to eat across the river. Getting here from the airport was straightforward: the VAB cost 20 euros round trip, and you can buy it at an automated machine before leaving the airport. The bus runs every half hour from right outside arrivals. It takes about 30 minutes, then it’s a quick five-minute walk with one flight of steps.

The hotel is in the historic old town, near lots of attractions, cafes, restaurants, shops and public transport. Check-in and checkout were easy and smooth thanks to the helpful, friendly service desk staff. We enjoyed little chats each day with Yourek in the breakfast area and his coworker Volkan, who were both extremely friendly. I’d stay here again on a visit to beautiful Vienna 🤍
