Pension Königs Cafe

We mostly needed somewhere to sleep, and this simple, practical hotel worked well for that. It's outside the center, but there's a good connection into town. The rooms are small yet comfortable and functional, with cozy beds, hot and cold air conditioning, and a new shower; shampoo and soap were provided. The staff were helpful and kind. Our evening train meant we asked to leave our luggage there for the day after check-out, and they were very accommodating.

The room was clean and modern, which was good, but breakfast was only sufficient, not especially good. There wasn't enough seating for everyone, so you might have to wait for a table. When it got busy, food ran out quickly and the staff couldn't refill it fast enough. We also found the Austrian people unfriendly. It felt like they didn't want to talk or answer questions. They seem to allow for overbooking: a friend who booked the same day as us was told the night before arrival that there was no room and he'd been moved to another hotel. We wanted to stay together, so we complained on his behalf. After discussing it, they arranged for him to stay at our hotel. It helped that we speak German and could talk it through with them.

We discovered this romantic little hideaway away from the busy streets around the cathedral. The drinks were wonderful, and the whole experience is one we'll treasure. Our bartender was so hospitable and outstanding. I only wish we'd learned his name.

We somehow ended up here after booking a hotel in the city center with an almost identical name. I still don't know how or why booking.com sent us to this one. The room was okay, but its little "kitchenette" was useless: we didn't even have glasses to drink from or any silverware. The front desk staff seemed rude or bored most of the time, and never smiled.
