Mediterranean Resorts

I came all the way from the States and was excited to go to the beach. I’d booked a luxury apartment with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The view was awesome and the rooms were nice, but bugs were everywhere, on the table, floor, and couch. They were tiny, ant-like things, which was gross. The bathroom looked like nothing had been cleaned, which felt unsanitary. The leather couches were damp and moldy too. It was nasty. I thought I was staying in a luxury apartment, and if I could give it minus five stars, I would.

We travelled all the way from the Philippines hoping for a relaxing holiday, but our stay at the Mediterranean Resort in Airlie Beach was deeply disappointing and these problems spoiled the trip. There was a serious pest issue, especially ants. The bushes behind the unit were overgrown and poorly maintained, which seemed to be contributing to it. Parking was another hassle. The designated space was extremely tight for our SUV and difficult to maneuver in safely. The resort is also on a steep hill, adding to the discomfort. We hope the resort takes this feedback seriously and improves things for future guests.

The balcony and living room had a stunning scenic view, and the location was great. But the property had several problems during our stay. The ensuite sliding door was stuck and wouldn’t close while using the bathroom. After a shower, the bathroom floor flooded, because the shower cubicle wasn’t sealed or may have been too old. The clothes dryer didn’t work, which made drying clothes difficult. The dishwasher only partly worked and didn’t dry. There are no lifts to the unit, just steps, and the property is on a hill with a steep uphill walk. Anyone with mobility issues should think twice about booking. I suggest whoever manages the property checks that all the appliances and fixtures are working before renting it out.

The location works well if you have a car, but otherwise you face a steep hill every time you come back. I stayed in unit 4, which was in a bit of disrepair. Other units in the complex were in better shape. Given a choice, I’d take Port Douglas anytime for its flat ground and many restaurants, most of which are better than the ones in Airlie Beach.
