Hanging Rock Family Motel

We stayed in a family room with a queen bed and three singles. It was one of the better places we've stayed with young kids, since none of the bathroom or bedroom doors had locks and the doorknobs were at a reasonable height. The rooms were neat and tidy, though a little dated. There's a cheap breakfast menu with enough options for most needs, plus a guest kitchen by reception with a microwave and BBQ utensils. The beach is close, which is great.

The room was clean and had the basics, and the staff welcomed us warmly. Ms. Donna and Rose were lovely hosts. It’s a peaceful spot near the beach in Bateheaven, with a drive-in style setup. The downside is that it’s a little way from the business centre. Without a car, expect to walk a kilometre or two to get to the main area.

A good-value, comfortable stopover, with the beach about a 450-metre walk away. The rooms have recently been painted and updated, and there’s a shared kitchen if you need one. We didn’t, since Catalina Club is right across the road.

I was there for two weeks and was happy with the stay. For $88 a night, it suited me fine since I mainly needed somewhere to sleep. The room was plain and showed its age, but it was cleaned each day, the bed was made, bins emptied, and cups washed and put away. A small toilet repair was done while I was out. The bed was comfortable, with a queen and a single. There were two big windows for daylight and heavy curtains for night, plus a small table, two comfortable chairs, bar fridge, quiet A/C and a tiny wall TV. The shower was huge, enough room for three people. Soap was provided, but no shampoo, and I’d forgotten mine. The biggest letdown was no internet or Wi-Fi, though I had four bars of Telstra service. There’s a shared kitchen with a stove top and microwave, and laundry machines cost $4 per load per machine. I couldn’t afford that, so I washed my clothes in the bathroom sink. Rooms aren’t wheelchair accessible. Parking is outside the room, and BBQ use costs extra. The beach is a 450-metre walk. Staff were delightful, and I’d come back.
