The staff were friendly and really flexible, and the place itself was a nice hostel. The kitchen and showers were clean. Just note that the men's showers only have a curtain, so I used the women's ones when I wanted more privacy.

The room was cosy, with a shared balcony, and the place was generally clean thanks to frequent cleaning. The reception lady was friendly. The strict rules also kept things quiet, so I slept well. The shower head couldn't be moved and the angle was awkward. While I was there, the light on the second floor was broken, so I had to use the bathroom on the first floor. The rooms were clean enough and the staff were okay, but Aussieway felt pretty average and didn't have much character or anything that stood out. Brisbane hostels are unfortunately limited, and none really stand out. The kitchen rules are strict, and alcohol is completely banned. I understand wanting to prevent rowdy behaviour, but I don't see why someone can't have a drink after a long day of work.

Thanks for letting me stay during a layover. It felt like a home away from home, and it's close to Roma station and just a block from the grocery store. This was THE BEST hostel I stayed at in New Zealand or Australia. It's clean, even the kitchen, and quiet. Mikala runs a tight ship, so there's no riff-raff.
