Pullman Brisbane King George Square

The valet/concierge was fantastic, very pleasant, and helped my elderly mother out of the car. Check-in staff were brilliant too. The beds were comfortable, but the room was dusty and dirty, with black mould above the shower and a cracked bathroom sink. I thought Pullman was one of Accor's premium brands, yet I've stayed in much nicer Ibis hotels. I was very disappointed overall.

The front desk and restaurant staff were friendly and made the stay feel personal. The rooms were clean and dependable, though a bit basic and aged for a Pullman. There was a short wait for the lifts, since only two were serving more than ten floors during my visit. The location is hard to beat. Queen Street Mall and the museum are a five-minute walk away, the City Hall-KGS busway is practically next door, and Central Station is just down the road.

The staff were polite, professional, and genuinely helpful when I approached them. Breakfast was also good quality and nicely presented. Those were the only redeeming parts of a very disappointing stay. The room was visibly dirty and dated, with worn furniture, old bathroom fixtures, and a toilet in poor condition. The bed was uncomfortable, and the whole place felt neglected. The hotel itself looks extremely dated, as though the interiors haven't been refreshed in years. The lifts weren't working properly and caused delays. At 2:30am, I could clearly hear the guests next door, making it almost impossible to rest. Housekeeping didn't come to the room at all, despite what I'd expect at this price. For a property marketed as four-star, it fell well short, arguably below three-star standards. I wouldn't recommend it to travellers expecting Pullman-level comfort, cleanliness, or value until the hotel makes significant renovations and operational improvements.

The buffet was nice, and the reception and dining room staff were lovely and friendly. Check-in, though, took a long time. The rooms were decent and comfortable, but the lift problems and lack of accessible alternatives had a major effect on our stay. We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at Pullman King George Square. One lift was completely out of order, and the other was extremely unreliable. It regularly stopped at level 4 and ground, went all the way to the top, and only then returned to the basement. While we waited downstairs in the car park with a pram, someone saw us but still closed the lift doors. We had no other way in or out and waited more than ten minutes. That was stressful and especially inconvenient during the busy Christmas period. We were told we could use staff lifts, but without an access card they were effectively unusable. There didn't seem to be stairs or a ramp from the car park for guests when the lifts failed. We'd heard the lift issue had been going on for over a week, which is a serious accessibility concern. Several reviews reportedly mentioned the same problem starting more than a week earlier. We were told repairs were finally happening on Christmas Day, and it's hard to understand why it wasn't dealt with sooner, particularly during the holidays.
