Sullivans Hotel

My husband had surgery at the hospital next door, and the staff gave us exceptional care. They let us check in early and even checked how I was doing emotionally. The room was immaculate, with a huge bed, modern bathroom and big TV. It’s about a 15 minute walk to the city centre. The only minor frustration was trying to work out the light switch panels, but that definitely wouldn’t put me off. Thank you, quality service staff.

May looked after us so well during a lovely stay with my pregnant wife. She was friendly and polite, and we both enjoyed chatting with her. The restaurant area was comfortable and spacious, and breakfast was good, especially the sausages. There’s a different feel to this hotel, with books you can borrow to read, which you don’t see at hotels much. We’d definitely stay again.

The pleasant staff, comfortable bed, nice pool, beautiful park across the road and convenient bus ride were the good parts. But the room was ridiculously small, with nowhere to store cases or clothes, just a narrow, useless shelf. There was nowhere to hang towels, and the bathroom area was tiny. We had no room service on New Year’s Day. Breakfast was pretty awful: tinned fruit, hot food in trays, only one kind of jam, and you had to make your own toast. The room had a crappy empty fridge, water on top, instant coffee and tea bags. It felt like a Youth Hostel. I’ve stayed in much better places for a lot, lot less money.

The stay was disappointing and definitely overpriced for what you get. The rooms are too small and poorly equipped, with not even a chair, and the tap water and complimentary water taste awful, like the pipes are old and dirty. We were given a supposedly “quiet” room by the reception lady with big glasses, but the AC was extremely loud and seriously affected our sleep. She should rethink her arrogant behavior or find another job if dealing with people annoys her that much. The other staff were friendly, and special thanks to the amazing room service personal. I’d recommend looking elsewhere for better quality at the same price. This doesn’t deserve a “4-star hotel” designation, more like two.
