We were excited to stay at the Calile, but the pool and gym left us disappointed. The pool was packed, with 20+ screaming kids at one point and groups of drunk adults yelling in the water. After our three-hour drive, there wasn’t a single seat or lounger free. We even saw a parent changing a soiled diaper right beside the pool in full view of other guests. It felt more like a Vegas hotel or budget cruise than a luxury retreat. We eventually went to another gym and used its pool just to get away from the chaos at the Calile pool. A timed lounger reservation system could give guests a fair chance to relax there. The gym looks beautiful, like the rest of the hotel, but it’s not practical for most people. There are only free weights and squat racks, with a setup clearly aimed at CrossFit-style training rather than the broader needs of a luxury hotel gym. There’s plenty to like elsewhere. The rooms were lovely, spotless, and well maintained, and the bed was one of the most comfortable I’ve slept in. Staff were consistently kind, professional, and welcoming. Breakfast was delicious and made with great-quality food. The hotel needs to bring that same thought and planning to its shared amenities.

The facilities and restaurants are beautiful, and the rooms were nice. But I won’t return because the staff made the stay so disappointing. On arrival, reception seemed incompetent and had an obvious attitude. At a hotel of this calibre, I expected a smile and to be shown to my room. Across the hotel, staff seemed lazy and exceptionally rude and hopeless. They made simple things feel difficult instead of helping guests enjoy a holiday. A hotel depends on staff who care and know what they’re doing, and this one fell short. There was no water in the room, and housekeeping only made the beds without properly tidying anything else. That’s not a five-star experience. I’m disappointed, and they should be embarrassed.

We spent four days at the Calile and had a great time. The atmosphere is lovely, and even with events happening around the hotel, our room stayed quiet and private. It had all the features we needed for a comfortable, peaceful stay. We ate at Hellenika, had breakfast by the pool, and enjoyed excellent cocktails and coffee. Service was exceptional from beginning to end, which suited the experience perfectly. I can see why the Calile has such a good reputation.

The neighborhood makes this boutique hotel even better. There are lots of great shops and places to eat, and the whole area feels green and lovely. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, and our room and bathroom were great. The blackout curtains and quiet, effective air conditioning helped me sleep better than I usually do. It’s a lovely home away from home for a few days, with easy access to other parts of Brisbane. We’d definitely come back.

The hotel is beautifully designed and has both a luxurious feel and a holiday vibe. Our room was spacious, with a good-sized round table for dining or working. The open closet was handy for leaving suitcases open, though clothes hanging in view can make the room look messy. I also wasn’t keen on the open bathroom design. The toilet has a separate door, but the rest of the bathroom doesn’t offer much privacy. Service was attentive throughout, and there were friendly staff everywhere. The location is convenient for restaurants and buses, with plenty to see and do nearby. Most things went well, but housekeeping was only half done on our last day: a towel was left in the basin, amenities weren’t replenished, and the bin wasn’t emptied. It looked as if they’d had to rush out. I told guest services, who responded promptly and offered a late checkout, but housekeeping hadn’t been told, and someone knocked at 11:30am asking if I was leaving. That undid the attempt to fix things. It’s a lovely place, but with the price and five-star claim, consistency and attention to detail need work.
