Silkwood Estate

The restaurant and its setting are beautiful, and the lunch was delectable. The pork belly bites were the standout starter. There were only 3 starters, 4 mains and 2 desserts on the menu, which was fine for us, though pickier eaters might struggle. We had a wine tasting too, with 15-20 wines available and no charge. Some excellent wines. Highly impressed and recommended.

The chalet was lovely, well appointed, and in a great location, but our weekend plans were let down by poor communication and the unexpected closure of the cellar door and restaurant. We’d planned to use both, then arrived to find them closed. The check-in email didn’t mention it. I’d emailed a few days beforehand to ask about a restaurant reservation and got no reply. After our stay, I emailed to say we were disappointed about the closures, but received neither an apology nor an explanation. Silkwood had posted on Facebook about the restaurant closure a week ahead, so it seemed the staff had gone on holiday and weren’t checking emails while away.

We loved every mouthful of the meal, with all those lovely flavours, and the white wines were a perfect match. We ordered the Chickpea curry and Sirloin steak, cooked to perfection, then finished with Pumpkin cheesecake and Orange & Almond cake. A wonderful lunch at the Silkwood Esate restaurant, with service we couldn’t fault. The woman who served us was so friendly and knew an incredible amount about wine. The chef also came out during the meal to check that everything was okay, and was just as friendly and lovely.

Had a great time at Silkwood on Saturday. The wines were excellent and well priced, and Ed the barman was friendly. We’ll be back.
