The bedroom was huge, with its own decking and views over the lawns. It was quiet all night and nobody overlooked us. The bathroom was clean and had everything we needed, and the microwave came in handy for snacks. We also loved having DVDs in reception and a player in the room, perfect for a night in. This was easily the nicest motel on our road trip, and felt much more like an upmarket lodge. A really pleasant surprise.

We found the location handy, close to everything we needed, and the service was outstanding from start to finish. The place was spotless and modern, with clean rooms, really comfy beds and plenty of pillow options. It felt safe and welcoming, and worked perfectly for our family with kids. We had an amazing stay in Denmark.

The good parts first: the room was reasonably clean, especially the kitchen and bathroom, and it was quiet on the midweek nights we were there. During the day, though, the highway noise was noticeable. The TV problem was a frustrating start. We spent an hour trying to sort it out on the first night, but the instructions were for a different TV model and the satellite box remote was faulty, so we missed the tennis match. I tried to explain this on days one and two, but the woman was dismissive and rude and wouldn't listen. My husband phoned the owner, I think, for guidance. She seemed helpful at the time, but that didn't lead to a solution, and she blamed previous guests for plugging in gaming boxes or laptops. The woman who came to check it in the morning blamed the 19-year-old cleaning staff member for not finding the problem. When I suggested it could be checked during the final clean and reported if it wasn't working, she rudely asked if I'd like her job. For the record, the two cleaning staff we saw were much older than 19. Cleaning wasn't the main issue. The old carpet was stained and smelly, and the curtains and fabric couch needed replacing too. So did the old grout, cracked bathroom tiles, rails and cupboard. The flywire doors were dodgy as well. The living room smelled bad, which I assume was the carpet. We aired it out while we were there, but after the unit had been shut for the day the smell was just as bad when we returned. There was nowhere to hang wet beach towels or bathers, on the landing or elsewhere. There's an old hills hoist behind the laundry, but the motel linen was on it. No BBQ either. The unit is on the highway, more than a 15-minute walk from the central shopping area and post office. My husband wasn't familiar with the area and read the blurb saying it was a 5-minute walk, so he assumed it was somewhere else. I should have checked, since I've been visiting beautiful Denmark for more than 50 years, since childhood, to see family or holiday. I won't stay here again. It's a shame, because the rammed-earth building could have potential if the owners did the work. Definitely not worth $210 a night. I've stayed in much nicer places in Denmark for less in the past 12 months. I guess booking late during school holidays means only the dregs are left.

The location was perfect for us, within easy walking distance of town and near recommended spots like Greens Pool, wineries and Alpacca farm. Our family group had a brilliant weekend in this welcoming motel. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff were willing to help with anything. Thank you for such a great stay.

Classic motel-style room, with loads of space and a reasonable price for the area. Check-in came with a lovely bonus too, the sweet pup in reception!
