Horizons Holiday Apartments

I'd never noticed Horizons on a booking site before, and this was my first time there after coming up from Victoria for a month-long holiday in Queensland. The room was a great size, the location was amazing, and the staff were so friendly. I'll definitely come back next year if I see it available!

We had a great stay and would definitely come again. The grounds were clean and tidy, and the pool, playground, mini golf, and BBQ area were great for families with kids. It's excellent value, really close to the beach, with a path from the car park. Everything you need is nearby, and it's only a 5-10 minute walk along the beach into Burleigh. The people running the place were really nice and helpful, and the permanent residents were friendly too, with good local tips for places to eat and things to do. I found some other reviews a bit unfair. Yes, it's near the highway, but lots of places on the Gold Coast are near a main road. The property is older, but it's well looked after. People mention tired rooms, though ours wasn't like that. There are economy, standard, and deluxe options when booking, so a cheaper room will probably have older furnishings. I can't fault the place.

The view was lovely, the location was great for the beach and restaurants, and the hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The apartment itself let us down. The lounge was very dirty with stains all over it, and the dining set was worn out. It needs replacing or an upgrade. There was no air conditioning in the bedrooms, and the fans provided were useless. The nights were very hot and uncomfortable, especially for the kids. The main bathroom door wouldn't shut, and there were no hand towels.

We couldn't find the ensuite at first, but it turned out to be behind the bedroom door. We were given room 9 for a special occasion on Saturday the 7th of December 2019, after booking a room for myself and two friends at the horizon apartments. It was a very unclean, old, run-down two-bedroom unit. There was mould in the main shower, a dirty broken air vent, and a dodgy bathroom ceiling. The balcony furniture was filthy, so we had to clean the table and chairs before sitting down. Inside, there was a popcorn ceiling, old appliances, oddly positioned fans, and no air conditioning. The windows were hard to open and close because their tracks were full of bugs and rubbish. The website photos weren't of an economical or standard room, and we were really upset when we saw the apartment. There was no reception, only an emergency number, so we called. Ben offered either an upgrade for an extra $90 or a refund, but by then nowhere else was available and we had to stay. Not happy, Jan. False advertising, don't waste your money.
