Grand Mercure Hobart Central Apartments

The staff were excellent, always helping with a smile and knowing the local area well, but the room itself was underwhelming. The bathroom looked decades out of date, with a cracked toilet lid, no exhaust fan, and mould and rust stains in the shower. Floorboards creaked through the carpet in the room and hallways, making it hard to sleep when people walked past. My small standard double was pitch black at first because it had no ceiling lights, just lamps I had to find in the dark, and half of those didn't work. There was an old, small CRT television with poor reception, too far from the bed to watch comfortably. WiFi was easy to start but kept dropping out. I wouldn't recommend the hotel unless it undertakes major renovations and improves the rooms. Nearby hotels, motels and backpackers offer private rooms with similar facilities for much less.

It's a lovely hotel, close to everything Hobart has to offer, and the staff were helpful. But they weren't clear about room service charges, which caused problems at checkout. Calling my companions liars isn't how you get repeat business. It's a pity, as I would have stayed again if reception hadn't been so rude.

A cozy, nice hotel close to the heart of the city. The rooms are spacious, and the decor still looks original. The guest computers in the lobby are great to use.
