Forest Walks Lodge

Wallabies, superb fairy wrens, sheep and other wildlife were right outside our bedroom door. We spent a week at Forest Walks Lodge, where the peaceful rural setting made it easy to switch off from digital life. Rosemary and Sean were great hosts, and the dinners were especially good, with ingredients sourced locally. They built an ecological, sustainable lodge early on, with passive heating and cooling and sustainable energy. It’s also a handy central base for Tasmania’s Tasting Trails.

The meals were amazing, delicious and restaurant quality. Our room was just right and very comfortable, and Sean and Rosemary made us and Nelly feel welcome from the start. We chose Forest Walks Lodge because it was dog friendly, though we weren’t sure what to expect since we hadn’t stayed before. The valley is so picturesque, with vivid green pastures and stunning mountains behind it. We wanted for nothing and will definitely be back.

The forest walk into the World Heritage Forest was a special part of our stay. Sean shared so much about the area and the forest, and his cooking was five-star, made with excellent local produce. Sean and Rosemary are wonderful hosts, with a real care for the earth and a wealth of experience living in harmony with nature. The accommodation is peaceful and comfortable. I could have stayed a week.

We stayed in the end room, which was quiet and quite spacious. Rosemary and Sean kindly let us bring little Romey, who loved sniffing around at all the wildlife that came out in the evenings. The valley, ringed by mountains, is so tranquil, and Rosemary and Sean were lovely hosts. Their meals were so good we gave up on going out for dinner. Breakfast had lovely fresh bread, duck eggs and jams. I highly recommend Forest Walks Lodge in Jackeys Marsh, outside Deloraine, Tasmania, for a peaceful stay.
