Champelli Palms

We were grateful to find an affordable family holiday, and the apartment was great value. It was spacious for our family of four, parking was included, and we loved staying north of Surfers Paradise. The complex is very well looked after, the pool and hot tub were lots of fun, and Murray, the manager, was super helpful and friendly. The traffic noise was hard for us since we’re not used to so much road noise. It was also odd to have an oven without anything to cook in, like a glass baking dish, and there were no oven mitts, hand towels, or face cloths.

The place needs renovating. Only one kitchen element worked, just two of the four dining chairs weren’t broken, and several light switches didn’t work, though luckily I didn’t need all of them. The couches were dirty, and when I dropped something down one and retrieved it, I could see it needed cleaning. The old bagged vacuum had weak suction, smelled when used regularly, and needed hairs and dirt pulled out of the nozzle. There were lots of maintenance problems too: old, broken blinds and washing machine, an air conditioner that didn’t work properly, a microwave that needed replacing, and bathroom vent and towel rail fittings that repeatedly fell off and clearly needed repair. The smoke detector went off even though I hadn’t used the toaster or incense sticks. It was noisy, and the manager was nosey. There’s no lift, which is hard for people with mobility issues. Toilet paper wasn’t regularly replenished in sufficient amounts, and weekly cleaning wasn’t done on the scheduled days. When the cleaners did come, they seemed thorough, but there had been so many different cleaners in a short time that the manager eventually took over the job when they weren’t doing it. The skip filled quickly, and not having a recycling bin was a problem when separating rubbish for recycling. I don’t recommend staying here. The basic living standards weren’t met, and the lack of sleep, peace, and comfort made it feel like my money would be better spent elsewhere.

Murray and his team were a delight to chat with, and nothing was ever a problem. They kept the facilities in great condition throughout our ten-day stay. Our family of five had plenty of space in the two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment, and it was very clean. We were there while looking at schools, houses, and the Gold Coast, and the stay was just right for what we needed. A huge thanks to Murray and the team. We look forward to coming back soon. *****
