Stillwater Seven

I’m from Sydney and have been here about five times. The room is inviting and comfortable, and the view is great. I had oysters, Stanley Octopus and BBQ Wallaby, and the food was very good. Service was seriously top shelf, impeccable as ever. It’s consistently excellent. 15.5/20.

There were three of us, and the bill came to $399. We all ordered the steak main, which I’d gladly have again, along with cocktails and an entrée. The food was delicious, the service solid and the ambience just right. Best meal we had in Launie, and we’ll be back next time we’re here.

We paid $350 for two people, with one drink each, and left feeling sick from food that was drenched in oil. It tasted bland and not fresh. The food was average at best, and the whole experience was massively overpriced. Service was good, but I won’t come back. A lovely Japanese Sushi establishment the next night cost $80 and left us completely satisfied, without a stomach ache. We could have eaten there four times and still had $30 left. We were exhausted after travelling very early to Launceston and considered cancelling, but were told the cancellation fee was $90 per person. That felt ridiculous and predatory. You also have to order at least two courses, such as an entrée and a main, which is frustrating if you’d rather share a main with plenty of snacks and sides. This was a waste of time, money and energy.

ChiWon looked after us for the whole meal and was fantastic. She explained the food and drinks in detail, made great recommendations and even gave us useful local tips for dinner and breakfast elsewhere in town. I only hope I’ve spelled her name right! The food was incredible, and the wine pairings were spot on. It was easily our best dining experience in Launceston, with wonderful hospitality throughout.
