Longreach Motor Inn

The staff made us feel welcome from check-in through check-out, and parking was easy. Our room at Longreach Motor Inn was spacious, clean and comfortable, with everything well maintained. It's in a convenient spot for a relaxing stay in Longreach. We'd happily return.

The cleaning was disappointing. I found used dental floss on the bathroom floor, and there was mould in the shower. The grout by the shower door also looked like it hadn't been cleaned. Daily service was available if requested, but when we left the tag on the door they only brought fresh towels. They didn't change the sheets or check whether the hand soap, shampoo or conditioner dispensers were empty. The rubbish bins were tiny, about the size of a 2-litre milk bottle, so we had to leave the bag on the floor. Parking wasn't assigned either, and we had to carry our luggage up two flights of stairs to our first-floor room. We stayed six nights and paid ahead a couple of months earlier, but the receipt charged $248 for the last night after we'd been paying $238. Odd. The room itself was small for the price, with a small bathroom, despite being called an Executive Queen Suite. At $238 a night, it seemed steep, especially after our Roma motel stay at $160 a night, which had a larger room, huge bathroom, dining table and lounge suite. It feels like Longreach motels can charge what they like because so many people come for the attractions.

At $250 a night, this felt far too expensive for what was offered. The hotel is in a very good location, but it's very dated. Our room was average, with no fly screens on the window or sliding door, and mould in the shower. The bed was reasonably good and clean.

We stayed in the accessible room. It was a little old-fashioned, but clean and comfortable, and we had a lovely night's sleep. The service was good. The restaurant meal was the real surprise. We ordered room service, expecting a decent feed and the convenience of not driving after a day on the road. My steak was nicely cooked, though pretty standard. My husband's fish was excellent, with a zesty dressing and lovely presentation, the sort of dish you'd find in a nice city restaurant. We shared dessert, and it was the best meal we'd had in weeks of travelling. We'll stay again when we're next in Longreach.
