Somerset Apartments Lord Howe Island

Somerset Apartments made a handy base for exploring Lord Howe Island. We felt completely safe despite there being no locks on the rooms, and the staff were friendly, helpful and easy to chat with. Airport pickup went smoothly too, just email your flight number and they’ll be there to meet you. We stayed in Hibiscus 3 and could only get WiFi in the bedroom. The guest WiFi is strongest by the transit lounge, so a room such as H5 or H6 nearby may work better. The kitchen had everything we needed, although we mostly ate out for breakfast and lunch. We brought food over from Sydney to microwave in the evenings. Once it gets dark, it’s very dark because there are no streetlights. Somerset also has a useful 6pm dinner drop-off and pickup service for restaurants around the island. The location is very convenient, right near the town centre, Thompson’s and Diamond’s grocery stores, and restaurants. The Anchorage was our favourite. Ned’s Beach and Lagoon Beach are a short bike ride away, and Wilson’s bike hire is close by too. Towels are supplied, but ours were stained, so I’d suggest bringing your own. Toothbrushes and toothpaste aren’t provided. The heated mattresses were lovely on chilly nights.

The best thing about the complex is its spot near Ned’s beach. Don’t miss feeding the fish. It’s also close to shops and restaurants, when they’re open, and the crooked post bar is fantastic. We had a positive stay in a basic, pleasant apartment that was clean and quiet. A few things were missing, such as shampoo, a sharp knife and scissors. Being asked to empty our own bin before leaving felt a little odd, but it wasn’t a major issue. Management were good, responding to requests quickly and effectively. They also let us stay in the apartment after checkout because they didn’t need it straight away, which we appreciated. Thanks for a good experience.

The island is paradise, and we had a wonderful stay here. The property is spacious and very comfortable, and the staff were incredibly helpful. We hope to return one day.

I was lucky enough to spend our anniversary here with my beautiful wife. From our first meeting, the staff were warm, friendly and helpful. The room was spotless and inviting, and the accommodation had everything to make the stay enjoyable. They even drove us to whichever restaurant we chose for the evening. The restaurant usually arranged to take us back. Such a relaxed spot, close to everything, and truly an oasis in paradise.
