Mackay Seabreeze Apartments

This was terribly overpriced and felt like a rip-off. Definitely not 4 star, 2.5 at most, and I can’t recommend it. The room was dated and worn, and it smelled stuffy. The bedroom window looked onto a balcony other guests walked past, so it didn’t feel secure or private. The balcony itself faced the western sun and got searingly hot. The old, faded ‘black out’ curtains had holes, the walls badly needed repainting, and the air cons looked 50years old. They hadn’t been turned on when we arrived, so the place was smelly and stuffy. The reception manager did explain that and apologise, but I didn’t realise how horrible it would be until I saw the room.

The reception and staff were lovely, but the rooms weren’t hygienic. Mine had centimetres of dust under the bed and mould in both the aircon vents and bathroom. I woke up sick the next day. It only lasted a day, and I’m certain it came from the poor air quality in the room. As others have said, this isn’t a 4 star hotel. It’s a health hazard.

The lady at reception was friendly, and I was pleased to find a laundry in the room. But there was dust on the skirtings, windows, and windowsills that looked months old, and the curtains were dirty and stained. The sofa smelled so bad I didn’t want to sit on it. Outside was all dirt, with no grass for the dog, and I couldn’t open the back door because the man next door was always smoking. I travelled up to North Queensland and back, reviewing the best and worst pet-friendly accommodation, and sadly this was the worst. We discussed not staying the second night. You have a lot of the same reviews, but it doesn’t look like you want to make the effort to change.

The advertised room photos look nothing like what we found. Our room was run down, smelled of cigarettes, and had mould on the ceiling and in the shower. The couch was stained and gross, and there was rust on the fridge that looked sharp enough to cut my hand. I was appalled. At reception, they agreed it wasn’t hygienic or safe for our newborn and 2 year old, so I got a refund through the machine. It’s been 4 days and nothing has reached my account. Reception says it can take up to 7 days, which is ridiculous. Worst experience.
