Avalon Motel

We’ve stayed here twice now and would come back again. It’s a nice enough little place, with clean rooms, comfortable beds, and tea, coffee, and sugar provided. The rooms are a bit dated, but comfortable enough for the price. My parking space was large enough for my car and tool trailer, and it was set well back from the street, which was good with a trailer full of my tools.

The big room gave our extended family enough space, and the main area felt nice and open. I liked the modern floor tiles, the sheets were nice, and the beds were comfortable and clean. The outer bedding looked a little dated but was fine. There were hand towels, soap, and enough plates and cups. It was a quiet spot with pleasant greenery around. The main letdown was black mould in both bathrooms, around the windows and on the shower silicone. Also, someone went through the bag of dirty laundry we’d left outside, so keep everything inside the room. It was pretty much as expected apart from the mould, and we got what we paid for.

Avoid. I got sick with Covid and Influzena, gave them five days’ notice, and they still refused to change my accommodation dates or refund me. They kept saying it was against their policies and wouldn’t do anything. I lost two nights’ accommodation. I travel regularly and often stay in hotels and motels, and I’ve never had an experience like this. Highly disappointing.

I panicked when he told me he could get in with his thumbprint. With my history as a rape Survivor, that really frightened me. He got angry and said I didn’t have to stay, that he’d give me my money back and I could leave. It wasn’t just what he said, it was his tone. I tried to explain what was going on, but he wouldn’t let me speak. I have autism and I’m also a rape Survivor, and I can react strongly when I’m overwhelmed or uncomfortable around men. He was rude, but they won’t apologise, and instead I’m treated as being in the wrong for reacting anxiously. That feels off. I wouldn’t recommend this motel to people with neurological diversity or rape survivors. It should be fine for people who are neurologically typical and not rape survivors. I’d have given them more stars if he’d apologised. That’s not much to ask. I think I’ve been rather kind with my rating, Dune. I don’t believe in sugar coating something. I believe in honesty.
