Mid City Motel - Mount Gambier

We paid a good price for a tidy two-bedroom family room, and the location was convenient. It had one bed in the main room and two single beds in a separate bedroom. The service was friendly too. We stayed overnight on our way to Melbourne via Great Ocean Road. I’d recommend it and stay again.

I had to give one star just to post this. The room description doesn’t match what you get, like others have said. I paid $300 for what was practically a hostel for two nights. There was no smoke detector or secure lock on the door, and the towel was dirty with a stain in the sink. The bathroom fan was right above the shower, but the hole had no fan, just exposed wire. When I complained, the girl at reception said it was perfectly fine and there were no other rooms available. I couldn’t use the shower for two days. It’s absolutely disgusting that they won’t refund me. As a hostel, I’m sure it’s perfectly fine, but not at that price. I’ve reported them to SA Health & safety. They don’t deserve to be in business!!!

The location is right in the middle of town, and the lady at reception was lovely and helpful. The aircon warmed the room, which was clean, as were the kitchen and bathroom. The TV had Netflix and YouTube Premium, and the WiFi was fast. I paid $140 for one person, though the room looked nothing like the advertised photos. Good luck figuring out where the light switches are or which lights work. The pillow could be better, and there were no toothbrush, toothpaste, or toiletries. There’s no toilet paper holder in the toilet, and the water boiler needs replacing. It doesn’t look too appealing. The wall lights were missing their lamps too.

The stove looked usable but took forever to cook anything, and the toilet seat was old and dirty. I also had to shut the faucet off with a lot of force to stop it dripping. The place clearly hadn’t been cleaned, with cobwebs in the corners and a thick layer of dust on surfaces. Sound insulation was terrible too. I could hear conversations and running water from the next room, then at 11:00 PM they started loud music, so sleeping was impossible. Very disappointing.
