Mercure Perth

There are much nicer motels than this. The place is extremely outdated and poorly maintained. Our room wasn't properly cleaned: there were dirty brown liquid drops on the bathroom door, no body soap, and the curtains weren't hooked up properly. I can forgive the odd cockroach, but seeing so many on the 13th floor was really off-putting. Maybe it was a four-star hotel when it was first built, but it certainly isn't now. They offered to clean the room, but only before a certain time when the cleaning staff were working, and my partner was asleep. For a hotel calling itself “4 stars,” the room should have been clean to start with. Staff didn't apologize. Stay literally anywhere else.

I've stayed here a few times, but standards have clearly slipped since my last visit. Check-in started at 2 pm; I arrived at 3 and waited in a queue by the bar for over 35 minutes. The room was okay, but the bath had a chunk missing, a panel under the sink was hanging loose, and the fridge door shelves were broken. There were barely enough coffee and sugar sachets, either.

Dushan at reception took such good care of us. He helped with parking and checking our group into our rooms, and gave us lots of information we needed. He welcomed us warmly and really went above and beyond to help. Thanks so much, Dushan!

For a one-night stay, the budget price and location were good. You can walk easily to places around the city. But the hotel itself wasn't great, and our room smelled of smoke and had a motel feel. Getting to the pool took two elevator rides, lots of stairs, and several doors. The water was lovely and warm, but we couldn't stay in the pool area longer than 30 minutes. There were only a few seats, no umbrellas or shade, and the space was small. A few families filled it up. Maybe the lack of shade is meant to keep people moving through so it doesn't get overcrowded.
