Rydges Perth Kings Square

The staff were really friendly and always took time to chat. I spent two nights here, and for the price I couldn't fault it. The room was clean, lovely, and comfortable, with tea, coffee, and milk available. The bathroom was very good, with a choice of rain or normal shower. The only thing missing was body lotion, which would be handy after a shower. I'd definitely stay again.

The location worked well for everything we needed to get to, and the rooms were mostly clean. We did find a child's toy and some food under the beds while retrieving our own mess from underneath. The small kitchenettes could use a microwave, parking directions were poor, and food or room service options were limited to one restaurant despite all the nearby eateries. They offered early check-in, but when we arrived we were told they NEVER do early check-in, so the Rydges website/EVT is advertising something this service can't provide. The concierge experience varied: some were very assertive and rude, while others were endlessly helpful. Honestly, we're unlikely to return. For a staycation, there may be something better in the same area.

If you want a clean, standard hotel in the central part of town, this one ticks the boxes. But as someone who usually prefers Rydges for work travel, I didn't find it up to the usual Rydges product. The building feels too small for what they've tried to fit into it, and the room is cluttered with furniture. For the first time, I also had a few issues with front desk staff. I've been here six nights and have another 13 nights booked, but after that I'll move to another hotel. It's not the worst, just disappointing if you're a Rydges customer.

The TV remote was the biggest problem. Its tiny, low-profile buttons and muted colours seemed designed to look sleek and "elegant," but it was unusable for someone without good vision and fine motor control. The occupant couldn't even turn the TV on or off, let alone change channels or adjust volume. I raised it with the manager, but nothing could be done during our stay. The accessible room itself worked well, though it had only a queen double bed and no room for a foldout. If the occupant and carer don't share a bed, the carer needs a second room at full price. That made an already very expensive stay even more so. Booking an accessible room online wasn't easy either, I had to call and wait a while to get through. The carer's adjoining room was convenient, but the connecting door hadn't been unlocked on check-in day. We had to wait until the next day for Housekeeping to unlock it, as apparently the onsite manager didn't have a key. The accessibility modifications were okay, but the automatic door stopped working on day two. We were told it might not be possible to fix on a Saturday, though fortunately it was repaired. The dining area was cramped and awkwardly arranged, with large concrete pillars making it hard to manoeuvre a walker. We needed an accessible room in the city centre, and the stay was adequate, but at that price I expected better.
