Port Douglas Palm Villas

Bec was a terrific host and had really useful suggestions for our trip. The garden apartment was clean, tidy and had everything we needed, including kitchen basics like salt, pepper and olive oil for the BBQ. We stayed five nights by the pool and could walk to everything. We’ll be back! Thanks, Bec. 😃

For $160 a night, we found it very good value, as long as you know it’s not a luxury hotel. The location is ideal for walking to the beach, marina and places to eat. Jakob, the only staff member I saw, was friendly, the facilities were good, and the room had a full kitchen. The shared laundry only charges for detergent. The place is dated, though, and cleanliness could be better. There was some mould, but not as much as a few other reviews suggested. I suspect mould is fairly common around Port Douglas. It was listed as a one-bedroom, but felt more like a studio: plantation-style sliding doors separate the bedroom, so someone staying up would still disturb the person trying to sleep with noise and light. A good place to sleep for the price, but I wouldn’t want to spend much time hanging around.

Unit 18 upstairs was quiet, with a pleasant little glimpse of Macrossan Street through the laneway. The bed was comfortable, the cooling was good even though we didn’t use the aircon, the wifi worked well and the fridge was really cold. Palm Villas is handy for the amenities and tourist spots. Fantastic!

Jakob was brilliant, helping us make bookings and work out which days to go. The room had plenty of space and everything needed for cooking, plus free parking inside and on a quiet street outside if needed. We had the pool to ourselves.
