Prospect Country House

The staff made this stay especially welcoming. They were all friendly and professional, and the whole place has a relaxed feel, more like being a resident of the house than a hotel guest. We had the upstairs suite, which was basically the whole upper floor, including our own lounge. Breakfast was continental and served from a farm kitchen. Pooley Wines is within walking distance, and a wine tasting was included. Richmond is walkable too, though the route follows the road verge. Middle Tea Tree road is the quieter way to go. It’s a beautiful, historic country house, and we had a great stay.

Dinner at Buscombes was great, and we also enjoyed an excellent wine tasting at Pooleys with Ellen hosting. Lisa and the team were welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. The place had a really calm feel, and we thoroughly enjoyed being there. Highly recommend it.

John and Lisa stepped in for the regular staff over Christmas, and even made sure we had a simple, hearty meal when everything else was closed. Their warm hospitality really stayed with us. We spent two nights at Prospect House and loved the beautifully restored house, with so much care put into the details that it felt like home. The rooms were comfy, the decorated lounge was a lovely place to relax, and the lush gardens were great for a walk after dinner. We had dinner at Buscombe's and thought the food was better than at some of Hobart’s fine dining places. The house is a great base for Richmond and Coal River Valley, or a short stay outside Hobart. Do read the booklet about Prospect House’s fascinating history if you have time. We missed the cellar tour, so we’ll have to come back one day.

The main house has been restored beautifully, with modern accommodation at the back, all on a property with its own facilities. The location is brilliant. We slept without interruption, had a beautiful breakfast and a wonderful dinner. Staff were super welcoming, helpful and attentive. Such a beautiful experience, and we’d definitely go again.
