We left after just 30 minutes and slept in the car. After an 11-hour drive with my young child, this was one of the worst stays we’ve had, and the room’s condition left us very disappointed and disturbed. The water in the pool was green and dirty, and it looked completely unsafe, so we couldn’t use it. The bathroom was dirty too, including the toilet and rubbish bin. The carpet was filthy, with visible stains that looked like vomit. The curtains wouldn’t close properly, so people outside could see into the room. The room also smelled strongly of smoke. After only 10 minutes inside, my throat hurt and I started coughing; I kept coughing for three days after leaving. The receptionist repeatedly insisted he “couldn’t smell” it, which was very interesting. My child was bitten by something and ended up with legs covered in bites. It seemed like a serious hygiene and pest problem.

There was a strange piece of food on the carpet, and I wouldn’t pay more than $60 a night here. The room looked old, with lots of chipping and rust. The shower head was stuck to the side, so I had to bend its metal part just to face it toward me, and then it started spraying. The light above the mirror didn’t work, and the spare pillows smelled like cigarettes. I didn’t trust the sheets or pillows, so thankfully I brought my own. The smoke alarm was uncovered, the bricks had weird marks, and there was a hole in the wall.

We stayed for 10 minutes and left without asking for a refund. The room was filthy and in bad condition, and the door had been broken into and patched up. The only good things were the TV and the clean bed. As we drove out, a police car drove in, so I think leaving was the right decision. This place needs a full rebuild.

My parents paid almost half what some other motels charge for two nights here. It’s not high-end, but it’s a perfect pocket-friendly option if you’re visiting Shepparton.
